A trend that has spooked many parts of North America now seems to have made its way across the pond to Newfoundland!
While many are speculating about the situation, it’s impossible to be sure exactly what’s happening. Many cases appear to be pranksters trying to scare people, yet there have been more severe serious stories involving threats and even a murder. The uncertainty has led to a number of posts online reporting sightings, and others threatening to harm any clowns they spot.
According to reddit users, there have been sightings in the Churchill Square area. The picture we obtained was supposedly taken in Mount Pearl. It could be a joke or it could really be one of the clowns people have been seeing.
While police in other areas have had varied responses ranging from unfounded investigations to arrests, the RNC have not yet made any public statements about such activity here.
Clown number fucking 4.

Twitter user @spatey12, who claims to work at a local 911 call centre, reported receiving 4 calls about clown sightings by around 9pm on Wednesday, October 5th.
Get this. My mother in law just heard on the scanner that a woman said 2 people in clown masks in Bay Roberts with knives. K9’s out. No joke

Some Facebook posts from the Bay Roberts area indicated that on Wednesday night, a home in the Bay Roberts area received a friendly knock at the door which turned out to be two clowns with knives. They were reportedly growling and playing clown music and shining flashlights into the house. No word on whether the police made any arrests.
This instagram account also popped up with a clown who appears to be in NL, although the handful of images that were posted seem to have been deleted some time after we posted the link. Whether this clown is one who has been spotted on the streets, or is just trying to take advantage of the situation and get online followers, is impossible to know.
On October 7th another Facebook post was brought to our attention, this reported clowns in Victoria Park in St. John’s.
We’ll be updating with details as we hear more, and covering more in-depth during our next broadcast. In the meantime, if you see or hear of any clowns, please let us know on Twitter, Facebook, or leave a comment below.
